The World Series of Beer Pong (WSOBP) was held at Flamingo Las Vegas, Jan. 1-5, 2013, and the winners of the competition, Timothy Findley and Mike Seivert, won $50,000 in prize money for their expert trash talk and ball handling.
Findley and Seivert, who hail from Sacramento, California, played under the team name “Drinkin Smokin Straight West Coastin,” at least one part of which this blog may actually condone.

Thanks to the WSOBP for the great photo, which none of the people in the background will regret later in life when they run for public office.
The World Series of Beer Pong is the largest, longest-running beer pong tournament in the world. And, honestly, even if that weren’t true, who would remember? There’s lots of beer.
After a grueling 50-plus rounds, the final table came down to “Drinkin Smokin Straight West Coastin” and “Smashing Time,” two-time World Series of Beer Pong champions (in 2009 and 2010). Oh, all right, we should’ve put “grueling” in quotation marks. It’s beer pong, after all.
This year’s WSOBP attracted nearly 400 teams from 48 states and 14 countries. The total prize money was more than $70,000. And you thought you needed a marketable skill to succeed in life!
Seriously, though, congrats to the winning duo and all the participants in this year’s World Series of Beer Pong. A frothy good time was had by all, and Las Vegas is proud to play host to this strange, boisterous display of skill, luck and camaraderie, not to mention a variety of hops and barley.
