Harrah’s Las Vegas has announced it will bring a Tony Award-winning musical to the center of the Las Vegas Strip, “Million Dollar Quartet,” starting Feb. 4, 2013.
The show tells the true story of four musical pioneers, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley, and how they came together for a night of music-making on December 4, 1956.

On that fateful evening, Sam Phillips, referred to as the “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” brought Cash, Lewis, Perkins and Presley together at the Sun Records studio in Memphis. The resulting evening became known as one of the greatest jam sessions in history.
The show features classics like “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Walk the Line,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Who Do You Love?,” “Great Balls of Fire” and others.

Some Vegas-related trivia: Marilyn Evans, the woman who was at the legendary jam session in 1956 (photo above), was Elvis Presley’s girlfriend at the time. Evans had earlier been contacted by a promoter and was asked to join the chorus line at the New Frontier Casino (demolished in 2007) in Las Vegas. Elvis picked her up at an employees-only coffee shop inside the casino. It all comes back to Vegas, baby!
“Million Dollar Quartet” will appear in the space currently occupied by “Legends in Concert,” which closes Dec. 30, 2012, after a four-year run. Read more.
