Eugene Robinson, giving his version of the recent Hamas/Israeli conflict, either lacks understanding or deliberately misrepresents the root cause of the confrontation. If we are to believe that Hamas is true to the words of their charter, they are not interested in anything short of the destruction of Israel.  Is Israel expected to negotiate its own demise? Robinson speaks of “A disputed border incident…” providing a spark. Bull! Israel had been under rocket attack for months and the crescendo was increasing. He seems surprised that Israel “reacts with sudden force.” Sudden? And then he charges Israel of using “…disproportionate force” as if this is some sort of game. “Disproportionate force” is the only thing that Islamic radicals understand or respect. Robinson refuses to acknowledge that, unlike Israel – dedicated to the protection of their individual citizens, Hamas uses women and children as pawns, with human suffering a plus to sway the international community, as they wage their “holy” war against the Jewish state. If the women and mothers of Gaza were given equal voice in their society I’d wager that jihad would disappear, along with its disciples of Hamas.
