It was pathetic enough when Sen. McCain cozied up to Paul Babeu a couple of years ago, afraid that J.D. Hayworth might actually defeat him in the Republican primary.
But now, McCain’s outdone himself. His attack on Colin Powell, while predictable, is a shameless, cowardly act.
We know he’s still mad about Powell’s endorsement of Obama four years ago. But today, in reaction to Powell’s endorsement of Obama again, McCain reached a new low.
Appearing on, of all places, Fox’s Brian Kilmeade’s radio show (Kilmeade possibly being the dumbest national media figure in America, and that includes Sean Hannity), McCain had this nugget about Powell:
“I think one of the sad aspects of his career is going to the United Nations Security Council and telling them things about Iraq that were absolutely false.”
Aren’t those “things” the supposed intelligence the Bush Administration fed Powell? The same intelligence McCain himself cited in repeated appearances supporting the Iraq invasion? The same intelligence McCain clinged to long after Powell recognized he’d been had?
Yeah, that intelligence.
So, Senator, if Powell told the Security Council that “things about Iraq that were absolutely false,” you did the same to the American people.
And you — unlike Colin Powell — have never had the decency to apologize.
You’re shameless, Senator McCain, a husk of the maverick that you might have never really been.
