• Say what? Obama qualified to manage the economy?

It’s astonishing that a majority of Americans indicate that they have more faith in Obama’s ability to manage the economy then in Romney’s. Think about that. Romney ran a major venture-capital firm, a state and the Olympics. Obama has never so much as run a Dairy Queen, in George Will’s memorable phrase. Yet Obama is more qualified to deal with the economy? Plus Obama has the problem of his performance to explain. He’s spent $5 trillion, an unimaginable sum, to stimulate the economy, yet economic growth remains stagnant and unemployment stubbornly persists several percentage points higher then he promised. The stock explanation is that he inherited the problems from Bush, but Ronald Reagan, among others, took over a worse economy and had it roaring at 6+ percent GDP growth three years into his presidency. If Obama understood how to promote economic growth, it would have happened by now. The point is that voters for the most part know all this and they just don’t care. My theories are that 1) they like Obama as a person and let that influence their judgment 2) the media seldom brings Obama to task for his failures and/or 3) the high percentage of takers in our society have figured out who their sugar daddy is. People are of course entitled to their opinions, as the old saying goes. But judgments this faulty have a way of coming back to bite you.
