I’m sorry, but I’m not buying the guilt trip the Az Republic is trying to sell.
I have great compassion and sympathy for those who have died in the desert trying to enter the United States illegally. But this is not the unintended consequences of our our immigration laws. It is the unintended consequence of making a bad decision to defy both Mexican and U.S. law to make an unauthorized exit of Mexico and enter our country illegally. If there is any blame for these deaths it goes to the Mexican government that, inspite of plentiful resources and opportunity, is too corrupt to protect its people from the cartels, or provide the proper climate for an economy that would give those dying in the desert hope and a reason to stay and build fruitful lives in their own county.
