Walter Mondale’s play on the burger commercial, a failed attempt at dumping on Ronald Reagan in their 1984 election.
The same question I had last night, listening to President Obama’s speech.
Not much there, except his usual powerful delivery. But . . .
Who was the speech for?
My guess? Just like Mitt Romney’s a week ago, President Obama was seeking to pump up his base.
Which means?
Both parties’ candidates have yet to seek the supposedly few undecided voters, the ones, I guess, who will determine the vote.
So . . . ?
Mark your calendar for Oct. 3, the night of the first debate. Both candidates have apparently decided that they’ll put their chips in two places:
Massive advertising.
And the debate.
The one clear Democratic advantage? Bill Clinton, who’s about to campaign in key places for Obama.
Ironic that he could be a difference maker for Obama, four years after the bitterness of the Obama-Hilary contest.
Stranger things have happened, though.
Like Paul Ryan.
