That would be the Obama Justice Department, which just cleared Arpaio after a four-year investigation.
Now, “clear” might not be the exact word for the press release that came out late Friday afternoon, but to the Arpaio Acolytes, the DOJ certainly cleared Arpaio.
And now, get ready for yet another term of America’s Formerly Toughest Sheriff. The DOJ has all but ensured it.
With the DOJ choosing not to prosecute, we’ll hear the term “witch hunt” tossed around quite a bit in the next 60-something days, mostly by Arapio’s Acolytes, framing the entire episode as an attempt to smear the Heroic Sheriff. Soft on immigration socialists and liberal media types have waged a war on our innocent Sheriff will go the narrative. And it’ll work.
Toss in the new, less bombastic version of Arpaio, the “Real Joe Arpaio” as his soft-sell TV commercial calls him, along with his huge campaign warchest, and beating him in November is practically impossible. Plus, I’m guessing we’ll see no “crime suppression sweeps” in the next three months, either. Arpaio — or his peeps — might’ve figured out that arresting dishwashers just doesn’t have the political oomph it used to.
So here comes our octogenarian sheriff, once again the Crime-bustin’ Crusader protecting Maricopans for another long four years.
Ugh.
