• What do Mitt Romney and Russell Pearce have in common?

    Yeah, yeah, they’re both Republicans.

     Yep, they’re both Mormons.

Both tough on immigration (though Romney’s slow walking that one back)?  Check.

And both side-stepped questions about  Obama’s de facto Dream Act.

Say what?  You mean the fire-breathing Pearce and the “Tell me what I have to say to win” Romney both ducked the issue?

     Yep.

First up was Mitt, whose response to Obama’s action was this:  We need a long-term solution to the problem.

     End of response.

On Sunday, Bob Schieffer asked what that meant (having to have known, of course, that the Mittster wouldn’t say):

     “What is a long-term solution?”

Besides blather about stronger borders, nothing.  Romney didn’t even come close to outlining the “solution.”  In other words, a typical Romney performance.

Meanwhile, Pearce showed up on Channel 12 news Friday night, interviewed by Scott Light, who asked Pearce about the plan.

Pearce gave a surprising response:  I don’t want to talk about that.

So Light tried a different approach:  What do we do with the almost 800,000 younger illegal immigrants this plan could affect?

     Pearce:  No answer.

What? !  What happened to Pearce’s mantra, “attrition through enforcement”?

     Nary a word about that.

Why so?  Well, maybe Pearce is running a bit scared, maybe he doesn’t want to say anything that might bring out a heavier anti-Pearce vote in the upcoming primary.

Maybe, like Romney, Pearce is afraid to say what he really thinks.  Now, that’s news.
