Mea culpa, Goldwater.
Yesterday — in good blogosphere form — I went off on the Goldwater Institute’s silence about the Arizona Commerce Authority’s abuse of the gift clause.
Did I make a mistake.
Today, I received a nice email from one of the big shots at the Goldwater, Clint Bolick, informing me that, in fact, just a month or so ago Goldwater got ACA head Don Cardon to retract a series of $5,000 stipends (you can read about it here) to the unsuccessful applicants of the ACA’s “innovative challenge” program.
Oops.
Score one for Goldwater. And us.
But I do wonder this: If the ACA is in essence a glorified “slush fund” that contradicts the boundaries of the gift clause, will the Goldwater Institute go after its very authority?
