Republic writer Linda Valdez argues that President Obama’s support for gay marriage is a “gutsy” act (you can read her column here).
Really?
Here’s what Valdez says: “His stand is courageous because he may have alienated some of the independent voters he will need to win re-election. He took a chance for decency’s sake anyway.”
He might have, but is this the issue that will sway enough independent voters away from Obama and to Romney?
I don’t think so.
Seems to me that Obama found himself — after Joe Biden’s and Secretary of Education’s Arne Duncan’s pronouncements in favor of gay marriage — in a position of having to explain his so-called “evolution.”
I’d call it the typical cautiousness Obama displays. Does anyone really think he was ambivalent about gay marriage until recently?
No, I applaud the President for supporting — well, sort of supporting, since he believes this is a state’s rights issue — gay marriage.
But gutsy?
Naw.
