It was an honor to speak at the War on Women rally this past weekend! I met some amazing women who are committed to not rolling back all the progress we have made toward equal rights!  Video activist Dennis Gilman caught my speech on tape and posted it on YouTube!   Below is the link.

The GOP may think the War on Women is a fabrication, but they had better think again! 

The Republican party is now perceived as being anti-Latino and anti-women.  Not a winning strategy for 2012.  It’s on thing to be against abortion — but it’s another thing entirely to be against contraception and prevention.

I am not, nor have I ever been, pro-abortion — but I am a rabid pro-prevention advocate.  Do we want to pay for prevention, or do we want to pay for welfare and for poor women having children that they will never be able to afford?    

These anti-contraception bills could not have come at a worse time for the GOP.  Especially since this issue had been settled decades ago.  This was, and is, a huge overreach by the pro-life movement that could end up costing Republicans the White House in 2012.

And should Republicans lose the White House in 2012 — the pro-life movement will have lost the opportunity to overturn Roe v Wade, at least for the next several decades, if ever.  As the winner in November will most likely choose up to three new Supreme Court justices.   Should Obama prevail, their dream of overturning Roe will be lost.  

The pro-life movement may think they are winning the war against abortion by pushing to defund Planned Parenthood and all the healthcare services they provide to poor women (remember, by law, NO tax dollars can go to fund abortion), and limiting contraception, but in the end of all these unnecessary battles — they will have lost the war, all while making the GOP appear anti-women.  They will have lost the real prize — that of overturning Roe.  Overreaching has its consequences.
