How low can Tea Party Republican John Kavanagh go?
This far:
He’s sponsored a bill — HB 2860 — that ostensibly cleans up some parts of our law enforcement system.
In reality, it contains a sop to one of Kavanagh’s many masters, in this case, private prisons.
How so?
One part of the bill does this:
It “removes the requirement for a quality and cost review of private prison contracts.”
In other words, with the passage of this bill, private prison oversight is no longer mandated.
Free enterprise reigns! Let the cheapest company rule over some of our prisons!!
Hmmm, isn’t Kavanagh the same guy who wants to take some of the home mortgage settlement and use it for more private prisons?
Yep, that’s him. Give the private companies more money and less state oversight on them.
Brilliant!
