Just before Christmas, we were invited as one of Scottsdale’s VITs (very important tweeters) to witness the opening night premiere of Cavalia’s Odysseo. Hah. Very important Tweeter. ![]()
Just let me say in the very beginning, we were absolutely blown away with the staging, the beautiful horses, the music, the talented performers, and the wild enthusiasm of the 2,000 opening-night fans.
For me, the most memorable scenes where those in which we found untethered Arabian horses at liberty to run guided only by inaudible voice commands from their trainer who knelt, walked, and ran among them.
A must-see performance that you will rave about for days on end!
Created by one of the founders of Cirque du Soleil, Cavalia Odysseo is a theatrical experience, an ode to horse and man that marries the equestrian arts, awe inspiring acrobatics and high-tech theatrical effects. Set under a 10-story tall White Big Top, audiences are transported around the world as 53 horses and an international cast of artists play and demonstrate their intimate bond.
The 15,000 square foot stage features a real carousel and a magically appearing 80,000 gallon lake in front of a stunning video backdrop the size of 3 IMAX screens.

Here’s a few more of my photographs:

All in all, Cavalia’s Odysseo is an extraordinary experience that we highly recommend. However, don’t wait too long to book your tickets, the last performance is January 20, 2013.

Bio: The Roaming Boomers is a luxury travel blog spotlighting experience, adventure, learning and exploration. David and Carol Porter, Michigan natives who retired to Scottsdale, started the project in 2008 after the market collapse took away almost half of the savings they’d carefully put together to be able to retire at age 50. The couple combined their years of entrepreneurship with a love of travel and set off to see if they could build success. The Roaming Boomers do occasionally accept free lodging, food and other gifts, but disclose that in their posts. They hope to build an audience of Baby Boomers who join them vicariously on their adventures. But they also hope to instill their love of travel so that the coming bubble of 79 million Boomers will join them.
