Saturday’s scene: Cruising the Mekong River

Muddy water the color of milk chocolate, boats packed with fishing baskets—these are just some of the scenes you’ll see cruising the Mekong River. Although Alan and I didn’t experience a full-on cruise of the Mekong, we did glimpse river life in Vietnam during a Mekong Delta cruise excursion when our luxury cruise ship, Regent Seven Seas Mariner, called on Saigon. After a long ride through the city, we finally reached My Tho, our embarkation point. We saw boats like this one motoring up and down the busy river. Stormy clouds on a hot, humid day only added to the atmosphere.

Have you experienced cruising the Mekong River for real, as in an entire river cruise? Post a comment to share your experience or tell us about your cruise ship excursion in the Mekong Delta. Alan and I are thinking about adding a Mekong River cruise to our boomer travel list.

You’ll find information on Vietnam in the Asia section of our new Ebook: My Itchy Travel Feet, Breathtaking Adventure Vacation Ideas.
