Maybe you have taken many Alaska Cruises or maybe this will be your first one, yet no matter how often you have embarked on a journey to the north you can be sure it will always be breathtakingly beautiful. But remember, your time in the 49th state won’t last forever so make sure you plan your land activities and excursions so you don’t waste a second of your vacation.
Denali Bus Tours
One of the best and most economical ways to tour Denali National Park is by bus. Plenty of tour companies exist to serve you and guide you through the Alaska wilderness. Make sure your bus tour has a guide and a good reputation so you get the most from these typically lengthy journeys. A good guide will know the history of the region, interesting facts and be extra knowledgeable about wildlife. Ask ahead about food, water and facilities so you don’t end up starved and thirsty at the end of the day.
Denali ATV Adventures
Become an honorary Alaskan by getting around the way they do: on an ATV! The ATV tours generally last anywhere from 1-½ hours up to 4 hours, often with sunset or sunrise options or the ever-popular “midnight sun” experience. These tours are for the adventurous traveler who loves the feel of fresh mountain air on their face as they conquer the rocky terrain along with their guide who shares information and direction via a helmet microphone system.
Flight Seeing
Alaska cruises are great but to really experience Alaska, Denali or even Mount McKinley in a truly unique fashion, sightseeing by plane or Flight Seeing, is an unforgettable experience. Soaring above clouds with Bald Eagles and circling the mist-enshrouded peaks of the numerous Alaskan mountains is a breath taking sight that you will talk about for a long time.
White Water Rafting
Spend a couple hours with the kids or a whole day with fellow rafters exploring the clear and crisp waterways that carve their way through the Alaskan wilderness. No matter what your skill level, there are plenty of classes offered by the numerous tour companies so you have an enjoyable and safe excursion.
Safari on Four Wheels
Ride into the wilderness in a Jeep with an experienced guide who will get you up close and personal with all sorts of Alaskan wild life. Being able to go where most can’t due to the terrain makes for a unique adventure that will fill your camera with stunning photos you will cherish for years to come.
Alaska is a big place full of impressive natural structures and amazing scenery. For that reason alone planning your land excursions is important so you don’t waste a moment and take in as much of the sights as possible. Alaska cruises all account for some stops to go ashore so when you book your cruise look to see what ports you will be stopping at. There is no way to see everything Alaska has to offer in one land excursion so why not make plans on where you will visit on your next Alaska adventure, it’s never too soon to plan to have a good time.
